Nandu..!!

His smile could even beat the Family Car-Nano as one of the most successful marketing strategies. He is popular within his community and is fondly addressed as ‘Jeba’ implying Pocket. His pockets never go bankrupt! He manages to sell several bundles of flowers and newspapers flashing his billion dollar smile to the billion dollar property owning sahibs and memsahibs driving through the posh lanes of Lodhi road.

Nandalal a.k.a Nandu is only 7 years old. He sells flowers and newspapers at the Jor Bagh Traffic light.
One would never find him sitting idle at the signal. He could be offering a two buck efficient and a swift car cleaning service with his dirty piece of cloth, assuring a young couple in an auto a flourishing family life on the purchase of his bundle of roses or thrusting the latest edition of the Mid-day against the window pane of a swanky new ford icon along with his face and grin. Its sympathizing inhabitant would eventually pay ten rupees to him but not buy the paper. Nonetheless it leaves Nandu, the happiest man in the planet!

Nandu has always shown great interest in learning. His inclination and seriousness towards studies explains his rapid progress in meeting the targets that we set for the children based on our curriculum. His intelligence, sharp concentration and analytical skills and consistent performance qualify him for a more formal system of education.    Given his ability and excellence in studies, enrolling Nandu into a formal school is one of our primary objectives for this year.
This confident young lad is highly talented and extremely creative. He can not only groove to some latest bollywood hits but even to some traditional Rajasthani folk songs. His break dance could give the Hrithik Roshans of the world a run for their money!
Nandu is a fabulous artist in the making. His drawings stand out because of its beautiful blend of colours. It reflects his unique skill to conceptualize and innovate at such a young age. If encouraged and given the right opportunity he has the potential to produce wonders!

Nandu’s charming personality makes him extremely adorable. One cannot help but give him that extra attention which creates several hurdles for us as volunteers. His tantrums often become extremely difficult to handle and he can walk out if it is not going his way…too much for a seven year old must say!

Nonetheless, like they say, “good things come in small packages”, this small wonder with his extraordinary abilities and skills is a dynamite to watch out for! Way to go Jeba!
